What is a car power of attorney for Turkey?

The car power of attorney for Turkey (often also called a car authorization) is the document by which the owner of a vehicle authorizes another person to drive it and take it out of the country to Turkey. To be accepted at the Turkish border, a power of attorney drafted in Romanian must be translated by an authorized translator into Turkish and, as a rule, legalized at the Consulate.

Cabinetul de Traduceri handles the authorized translation into Turkish and the related legalization steps, so your document is correctly prepared before you leave. We work with both individuals and companies.

Related documents: if the car is leased or belongs to a company, additional documents are required (the leasing company's consent, the legal representative's authorization).

When you need a car power of attorney for Turkey

In short: whenever you drive in Turkey a car that is not your personal property. The most common situations:

  • The car is registered in someone else's name (spouse, parent, friend, relative) and you are the one taking it to Turkey.
  • The car belongs to a company and the trip is made by an employee or the manager.
  • The vehicle is leased and not yet registered in your name.
  • You're driving a borrowed or rented car.
  • You are travelling for a holiday or personal reasons with the family car but are not the registered owner.

Price calculation

The price of the authorized translation of a car power of attorney for Turkey is set per standard page of 2000 characters including spaces (the page is indivisible). An ordinary power of attorney usually fits within 1-2 pages. The cost of legalization is added where applicable.

The final price depends on the number of pages, the legalization steps required and the deadline. We confirm the exact cost before we start.

    Frequently asked questions

Does the power of attorney also need legalization, not just translation?
As a rule, yes: to be accepted in Turkey, the power of attorney translated by an authorized translator into Turkish must be legalized. The exact legalization steps depend on the situation; we tell you what they are together with the quote and handle them for you.
Can I cross into Turkey with just the translation, without legalization?
The official recommendation is to also have the Turkish translation legalized at the Consulate. Some travelers have passed with only a translator-stamped translation, but the decision is up to the Turkish customs officer. To avoid being turned back at the border, choose the full option with legalization.
    How long does it take?
The firm turnaround depends on the volume of documents and the legalization schedule - we confirm it with the quote.
How much does translating a car power of attorney for Turkey cost?
The price is calculated per standard page of 2000 characters including spaces, plus the cost of legalization. We give you the exact price before we start.
Can I send the documents online, without coming to the office?
Yes. Send us a clear photo of the required documents on WhatsApp or email, you'll get the quote and the turnaround, and we'll arrange delivery together. After consular legalization, we can send the document anywhere in the country.
How do I receive the power of attorney, and is express courier available?
Yes. You can pick it up at our offices in Constanța and Călărași, or we send it by express courier (24-48h) anywhere in the country. After legalization at the Consulate, we hand over the original power of attorney.
    What documents do I need?
For individuals: the owner's and driver's details, the car's registration certificate and the power of attorney in Romanian (or what it contains). For companies: the company's and legal representative's details, the registration certificate and, if the car is leased, the leasing company's consent.
The car is owned by a company/ leased. Is that possible?
Yes. For companies we translate the legal representative's authorization and, where applicable, the leasing company's consent.
The car is leased through BCR or Țiriac. What do I do?
Leasing companies (BCR Leasing, Țiriac Leasing) issue the authorization only in the company's name, without naming you as the driver. So you need a second authorization, from the company to you (the driver), which we translate and legalize together with the leasing agreement. In the generator, choose the company form.
Do I also need a power of attorney to transit through Bulgaria?
Bulgaria is in the European Union, so Bulgarian customs usually won't ask for the authorization. Still, for peace of mind, it's good to carry an English version (from the leasing company or the owner). The Turkish-translated and legalized power of attorney is what you need to enter Turkey.
