Authorized translator

An authorized translator is a translator accredited by the Romanian Ministry of Justice to translate documents with official value. Their signature and stamp turn an ordinary translation into a document accepted by institutions, notaries and authorities.

When you need one

You need an authorized translator whenever a translated document has to be submitted to an institution: civil registry, court, notary office, university, police or authorities abroad. Translations for personal use do not require authorization, but official ones do.

What they can do

The authorized translator translates the document, confirms in writing that the translation matches the original, and applies the stamp and signature. On the basis of this signature, a notary public can legalize the translation, and the document can receive an apostille for use abroad.

How to check the authorization

Every authorized translator has an authorization number from the Ministry of Justice. This number appears on the translation endorsement, alongside the name and the languages they are authorized for. You can ask for this number before ordering the translation.
